Michael Strahan and his second ex-wife, Jean Muggli, famously had a very bitter divorce that was both painful and lengthy. 

The Good Morning America host was with the mother of his twins, Isabella and Sophia, from 1999 to 2006. 

But it was a years-long battle following their breakup as they fought angrily over custody and money.

Despite everything that went on between them, with ugly accusations being slung from both parties, Jean has hung on to her ex in an unexpected way. 

Nine years after their split, Jean still goes by Jean Muggli Strahan on Instagram, refusing to delete her famous ex-husband's last name. 

It's a move which fans have commented on in the past but Jean hasn't publicly addressed. 

There is no doubt that their relationship has improved over the years and Isabella's recent cancer battle has united them as a family. 

It has been just over a year since Isabella was diagnosed with medulloblastoma.

Both Michael and Jean have spoken about her fight, most recently opening up in an interview with People. 

Jean told the outlet: "Isabella's strength and resilience was the same as it was when she was a little girl. The way she handled every day with grace was amazing."

Michael mirrored her statement, adding: "One of the things she said, probably the hardest thing I had to hear was, 'Dad I'll do whatever. I want to live.'"

Isabella documented much of her journey battling cancer in a YouTube series to raise funds for her hospital. She will further shed light on the experience with her ABC special, Life Interrupted: Isabella Strahan's Fight Against Cancer, which airs tonight, February 5 at 10pm EST.

Fans know Michael Strahan as both an all-star NFL player and a television personality, but his most important role is being a dedicated dad to his four kids: Tanita, Michael Jr., Isabella and Sophia.

Strahan had his two older children, Tanita and Michael Jr., with his first wife, Wanda Hutchins, before welcoming twins Isabella and Sophia with his second wife, Jean Muggli. While Strahan occasionally shares photos of his kids on social media, he keeps his family life relatively private.

Still, Strahan has proudly talked about how much he loves being a dad. In 2016, Strahan told PEOPLE how he makes his blended family work. "My kids give me strength," he said. "I love being with the kids. To me, it's all about family, now more than anything."

Although Tanita and Michael Jr. grew up in a different household than Sophia and Isabella, Strahan said that all four kids have become "very close" over the years. "You worry how the kids will mix and blend, but brothers and sisters are brothers and sisters regardless of different mothers," he added.

In 2017, Strahan received a Father of the Year Award from The National Father's Day Committee. He told PEOPLE of the honor: "I love being a father. It's absolutely the most joy you're going to have in your life. It's also the most stress you're going to have."

Strahan and his family faced a significant amount of stress in late 2023 when Isabella was diagnosed with medulloblastoma — a common malignant brain tumor that arises in the cerebellum, a part of the brain located at the base of the skull. As of June 2024, Isabella is cancer-free after finishing her final round of chemotherapy.

Jean Muggli Strahan, 57, was born on November 30, 1964, in Carson, North Dakota.

Jean is reportedly the manager of a cosmetics store in New York City, according to Legit.

She and Michael first met at a salon in Manhattan while the pro athlete played for the Giants and tied the knot in July 1999.

The pair share a set of twins, Isabella and Sophia, who were born in 2004.

Jean and Michael, however, finalize their divorce in 2006 with Jean being awarded over $15million - as well as $18k a month - in child support.

After Michael's NFL retirement, his child support payment was reduced by $5k, according to TMZ.

In June 2021, Jean was arrested and charged with criminal contempt for violating an order of protection involving her ex-girlfriend, Marianne Ayer, TMZ reported.

Jean was arrested after allegedly showing up at Marianne's house in New York City.

Marianne claims the alleged harassment began after the two ended their relationship.

Earlier that month, Marianne had filed legal documents "accusing Jean of grand larceny, disorderly conduct, harassment, coercion and forcible touching," according to the outlet.

"Marianne claimed in the legal docs Jean took her son's plastic gun which he used in a student film and threatened her, claiming the gun was real. Marianne went on to claim Jean abused her pets by allegedly shoving and kicking her German Shepherd."

Michael Strahan and his family are reflecting on the hardest year of their lives.

It has been just over a year since the Good Morning America anchor's daughter Isabella, who is twins with Sophia, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, the most common form of brain cancer in children.

After undergoing several surgeries — including on her 19th birthday — radiation, and chemotherapy, the model was officially declared cancer-free in the summer, she has returned to school at the University of California, and now her family has come together and looked back on overcoming it all.

Speaking with People, Michael first recalled how "[Isabella] was thin and tired and bald and all the things you hate to see your kid go through," however, "her spirit was there."

"One of the things she said, probably the hardest thing I had to hear was, 'Dad I'll do whatever. I want to live,'" he added.

His ex-wife Jean Muggli, Isabella and Sophia's mom, to whom he was married from 1999 to 2006, similarly said: "Isabella's strength and resilience was the same as it was when she was a little girl. The way she handled every day with grace was amazing."

Sophia, who is a student at Duke University — Isabella was treated at Duke Children's Hospital & Health Center — added of her twin sister: "She would say to me 'I just want to feel normal. Nothing in my life is normal.'" And "even though … nothing she went through was a normal experience," the family made her feel as such as much as possible.
