Michael Joseph Landers, the son of Michael Eugene and Linda Catherine (Ripperger) Landers, was born in Des Moines, Iowa on September 3, 1965. The family moved from the Des Moines area, when Mick was a young boy, and he was educated in the East Union Public Schools. Mick graduated from East Union High School with the Class of 1983. After graduation, Mick attended college at Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado and then at Southwestern Community College in Creston. Mick’s college education earned him an Associate of Arts Degree in the field of Fire Science in 1997. Mick Landers, 51, of Creston died Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston. Open visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 17, at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center, 809 W. Montgomery St., in Creston. The family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday with the Fireman Honor Guard present. A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Crest Baptist Church in Creston with the Rev. Chuck Spindler officiating. Following the service, the funeral procession will proceed to Creston Fire Department for the firefighter's "Last Call." Inurnment will be at a later date in Union Chapel Cemetery in St. Charles. Mick worked a short time for the city of Winterset and also served as a volunteer fireman on Winterset Fire Department from February to October 1992. In late 1992, Mick worked as a full-time, career firefighter in Fort Dodge for one year. He was an active member of Crest Baptist Church where he previously served on the Property Committee and was part of the Cancer Support Ministry.
