    Biography

    Anitha was born Harpyari in Mettupalayam. She was interested in music and singing from her childhood and managed to convince her family to pursue her career as singer. She gained B.A. in music at Avinashi Lingam College, Coimbatore. Anitha joined the University of Madras, Chennai and obtained M.A in Carnatic music.

    She met Pushpavanam Kuppusamy, a fellow student at University of Madras, and they started singing together in various competitions and concerts. Eventually the couple got married. She learnt "Nattupura Pattu", a Tamil folk art, from her husband Pushpavanam Kuppusamy.

    Anitha's main focus was on "Nattupura Pattu", a Tamil folk art. Along with her husband Pushpavanam Kuppusamy she has performed around 3,000 concerts in India and overseas.

    Anitha incorporated social messages in her singing to create awareness specially about AIDS, dowry, smoking, drinking, female infanticide, child labour, importance of education for girls, and breast feeding.

    Earlier Anitha's aim was to become a mainstream playback singer. But due to her frequent traveling for concerts she could not concentrate on playback singing.

    Pushpavanam Kuppusamy is a Tamilfolk singer, playback singer, lyricist, writer and music composer. He has been credited for reviving the Naatupura Paatu, a type of Tamil folk art. Together with his wife Anitha Kuppusamy, he has conducted several concerts of Tamil folk songs, and the couple have together brought out several albums of authentic Tamil folk music. He has also written books on Tamil Folk songs. He appears on Television Channels like Sun TV, Vijay TV, and Makkal TV performing musical shows. He is a recipient of the Kalaimamani award from the Government of Tamil Nadu.

    Kuppusamy studied at Madras University and gained M.A., M.Phil., and a Ph.D. in music. He received his Ph.D. from Queen Mary's College, Chennai. Sathyabhama University gave an Honorary Doctorate to Kuppusamy for his contribution to music.

    Along with his wife, he has performed around 3000 shows in India and abroad. He is known for his incorporation of social messages through his music.

    Kuppusamy has sung film songs for many popular music directors, including Ilaiyaraaja, Vidyasagar, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Devi Sri Prasad, and G. V. Prakash Kumar.

    Kuppusamy is one of the seasonal judges in Vijay TV hosted Airtel Super Singer and Airtel Super Singer Junior.
