Biography: Ayan Mukerji is a well-known Indian movie director and actor who was born on the 24 of August, 1983. At a ripe age of 26 years, he directed his very first film, ‘Wake Up Sid’ (2009), produced by Karan Johar and Hiroo Yash Johar and starring Kashmira Shah, Ranbir Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Konkona Sen Sharma, Rahul Khanna and Supriya Pathak. This film which was released on the 2 of October, 2009 was a huge success at the box office. Ayan Mukerji was awarded the Filmfare Award in the Best Debutante Director (Male) category for this film.Ayan Mukerji even wrote the screenplay for ‘Wake Up Sid’.

Ayan Mukerji’s father, Deb Mukherji is a renowned Bengali movie actor. Ayan is also the cousin of famous film personalities like Rani Mukherjee, Tanisha Mukherjee and Kajol.

Ayan Mukerji started working as an assistant director under his brother-in-law, Ashutosh Gowariker, for the film ‘Swades’ (2004), starring Shahrukh Khan, Gayatri Joshi and Kishori Balal. He also worked as an assistant director for Karan Johar for the film ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’, starring Shahrukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta and Kirron Kher.     Rani Mukerji (pronounced [raːni mʊkʰərdʒi]; born 21 March 1978) is an Indian actress who works in Hindi films. Noted for her versatility, she is the recipient of multiple accolades, including eight Filmfare Awards. Mukerji has featured in listings of the leading and highest-paid actresses of the 2000s.

    Born into the Mukherjee-Samarth family, Mukerji dabbled with acting as a teenager by starring in her father Ram Mukherjee's Bengali-language film Biyer Phool and in the social drama Raja Ki Aayegi Baaraat (both 1996). Mukerji had her first commercial success with the action film Ghulam and breakthrough with the romance Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (both 1998). Following a brief setback, the year 2002 marked a turning point for her when she was cast by Yash Raj Films as the star of the drama Saathiya.

    Mukerji established herself by starring in several commercially successful romantic films, including Chalte Chalte (2003), Hum Tum, Veer-Zaara (both 2004), and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), and the crime comedy Bunty Aur Babli (2005). She also gained praise for playing an abused wife in the political drama Yuva (2004) and a deaf and blind woman in the drama Black (2005). Mukerji's collaborations with Yash Raj Films from 2007 and 2010 produced several unsuccessful films and led critics to bemoan her choice of roles. This changed when she played a headstrong journalist in the biographical thriller No One Killed Jessica (2011).     The Mukherjee-Samarth family is a Hindu Bengali-Marathi family that has been involved in the Hindi film industry since the 1930s, Shobhana Samarth having first acted in a film in 1935. The Mukherjee family was connected to the Samarth family by Tanuja's marriage to Shomu Mukherjee in 1973.

Sashadhar was married to Ashok Kumar's sister Satirani Ganguly. Their daughter, Chandana Mukherjee, was a scholar of her times. She was the eldest among all the Mukherjee children.     Sashadhar's elder brother was Ravindramohan Mukherjee. His son, Ram Mukherjee, was a film director and one of the founders of Filmalaya Studios. He died on 22 October 2017. He had two children with his wife Krishna Mukerji, the actress Rani Mukerji, and Raja Mukerji who is a producer.

    Sashadhar's younger brother, Subodh Mukherjee, was a director. He died on 21 May 2005. He is survived by his wife Kamala, sons Subhash and Sanjay and daughter Gitanjali.
