Career
Lee Han graduated from Hanyang University's theater and film program. He first worked as an assistant director on two films for veteran filmmaker Bae Chang-ho: Love Story () and My Heart (). In , he wrote and directed his first feature, Lovers' Concerto, a melodrama about three friends caught in a love triangle which starred Cha Tae-hyun, Lee Eun-ju and Son Ye-jin. He then wrote the screenplay for Garden of Heaven (), a tearjerker about a hospice doctor who falls for a terminally ill patient, played by Ahn Jae-wook and Lee Eun-joo. Lee was also part of the writing staff of Bodyguard, a action-comedy television series starring Cha Seung-won.
With his succeeding films, Lee further solidified his reputation as a filmmaker with a keen insight into modern romance. Almost Love (also known as Youth Comic) is a romantic comedy starring Kwon Sang-woo and Kim Ha-neul about a stuntman and an actress with stage fright. My Love (also known as Love, First) is a Christmas movie which featured an ensemble cast playing multiple couples, namely Kam Woo-sung, Choi Kang-hee, Ryu Seung-ryong, Im Jung-eun, Jung Il-woo, Lee Yeon-hee and Uhm Tae-woong.
But Lee's breakthrough film would be his fourth feature, Punch (). Based on Kim Ryeo-ryeong's bestseller Wandeuk, the film seriously highlighted the issue of multicultural families in a coming-of-agecomedy-drama about a poor and rebellious teenage boy (the titular Wandeuk, played by Yoo Ah-in), whose idiosyncratic homeroom teacher and next-door neighbor (Kim Yoon-seok) encourages him to learn more about his Filipinoimmigrant mother, and their teacher-student relat Han (Bryce) Lee, (born February 15, ), is the owner of Williamsburg Diner, where Max Black and Caroline Channing work. Born and raised in North Korea by traditional Christian parents, Han moved to America on his own, much to the chagrin of his parents, where he opens the diner. He is mostly seen being the butt of his employees' jokes (especially Max), trying his best to drum up business for the diner (even if it means cutting corners and using suspicious ingredients), fiting in and follow the trends to be considered "cool", and on some occasions, trying to find a girlfriend. Han is of Korean descent, with black hair and brown coloured eyes. His most noticeable feature is his height, which is mentioned and/or made fun of every time he appears, mostly by Max. He is usually seen wearing different coloured sweaters. He is often mistaken for a little boy, and sometimes even for a little girl. In the earlier seasons, Han is portrayed as a stereotypical Asian man and the timid long-suffering owner of the diner, who has to deal with a mostly incompetent diner staff and regularly being made fun of for his small stature, his perceived homosexuality, his lack of a love life, and his ineptitude as a boss. As the show progresses, he becomes more outspoken, insulting Max (and others) back when they make fun of him, learning American slang and pop culture references, and even taking pleasure when the girls experience misfortune in their love lives or their career. Despite this, Han still comes to the aid (albeit sometimes reluctantly or being forced to) of Max and Caroline and the rest of the diner gang when they need it and even when they steal from him and the diner, he never keeps tabs or demands repayment. Whether it's out of kindness or because he is fairly well off financially and therefore doesn't feel the need to demand reimbursement from his broke employees is uncertain.
