George Foreman Grill Review
Time to take a look at one of my favorite kitchen gadgets, the George Foreman Grill. In this review, I give my honest opinion of using one for nearly 20 years. I first started using a small one, after a decade of use, I upgraded to a larger one, which I have used for about a decade as well.
Is the George Foreman grill right for you? This lean mean fat grilling machine is one amazing kitchen product. If you don’t like firing up your stovetop all the time, or want to bring the outdoor grilling experience inside, then this kitchen product, just might be for you.

What is a George Foreman Grill?
First of all, you may be wondering exactly what the George Foreman grill is. The kitchen gadget is a portable electric grill with many uses. It has a nonstick surface, which opens and closes to grill the food on both sides.
It sits at an angle so the grease slides down and gets captured in a little plastic “boat.” That comes with it. The idea is that the food isn’t sitting in its own grease, making it healthier. It also kind of mimics an outside grill, puts nice grill marks on the food.
The portable grills is manufactured by Spectrum Brands and promoted by the famous retired boxer, George Foreman. It has been around since 1994. I have used one since 2001.
They come in a variety of sizes to fit most family needs. I started with a two-person size then upgraded to a larger 4 person size. I have used them on many many occasions over the past 20 years, and absolutely love them.
The George Foreman Grill is very convenient to use, with easy clean-up. It cooks the food evenly and quickly, as well as a little more healthy if you are concerned about that.
How to use the George Foreman Grill
They are very easy to operate. There are no Y2K is, without question, back in the mainstream. As a 1997 baby, some of my most vivid memories are the sounds of sizzling hamburgers harmonizing with Ryan Seacrest unjustly kicking Jennifer Hudson off of American Idol. So you can imagine my intrigue when the brand not only announced the debut of a dishwasher-safe George Foreman Grill in April but also sent me one to test out. Follow along below as I reminisce on the grill's glory days, barbecue some chicken thighs in my one-bedroom apartment, and decide if we should have left the machine back in the early 2000s. Back in the day, I vaguely remember my family's Foreman being white, a bit clunkier, and equipped with an unattached grease trap tray. In 2022, the new and improved $52 grill features nonstick coating, a compact design (10" x 11" x 4"), and it can be fully- submerged in water — just make sure before washing you let your grill cool down, unplug it, and remove the control panel. While it can't quite compete with Instagrammable Dutch ovens, the updated grill also seems to have taken notes from millennial-friendly brands and has a more pared-back, sleek look. The first George Foreman grills were indoor contact grills that featured an innovative fat-draining system. This indoor/outdoor electric grill is quite different from those models, but it still includes a fat draining and collecting system that keeps your food from steaming in juices or cooking in excess fat. The large domed lid gives you a lot more overhead cooking space than contact grills, so you’re not limited to steaks, burgers, and other thin foods. Yet this grill is still compact enough for small spaces, and the pedestal stand makes it comfortable for outdoor grilling as well. But how does it cook? We grilled everything from burgers to pizza, inside and outside our Colorado home, and we’ve got details to share. It also did a surprisingly good job cooking a frozen pizza, producing a crisp bottom crust and properly melting the cheese. When we cooked juicy foods, the fat and drippings drained through strategically placed holes in the grill surface and into a drip tray, so cleanup was easy. One downside is that grease can spatter out the sides of the grill during high-heat cooking. During outdoor cooking, the spattering made the control dial a little greasy. Indoors, the spatter required a little extra countertop cleanup, but cooking is always a little messy. This grill does a fine job with basics like burgers and sausages, producing nice grill marks.
