Zambian born Rozalla’s impressive string of hit singles has earned her the title ‘Queen Of Rave’. Rozalla first came on the scene in the 1980s in Zimbabwe, the country she had moved to from her birth country. Her singles charted well in the area and an English record producer took her to London in 1988. Rozalla’s career took off when she released ‘Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)’ in 1991. The song became a massive success, and was one of the bestselling singles of the year, reaching the top 10 in numerous countries. Today this anthemic rave classic is seen as one of the most influential dance songs ever.

1992 was a particularly good year for Rozalla. Her debut album, named after her debut hit, flew straight into the UK top 20 and spawned two more international hit singles: ‘Are You Ready To Fly’ and ‘Faith (In the Power of Love)’. Rozalla also toured with Michael Jackson on his “Dangerous” tour, opening all of his performances.

Rozalla subsequently recorded the theme song to the film, Carlito’s Way, ‘I Love Music’, which enjoyed UK Top 20/U.S. Hot 100 success in 1994. Further British hits followed in ‘Baby’, ‘This Time I Found Love’ and ‘You Never Love The Same Way Twice’. 1995 saw the release of her second album ‘Look No Further.’

Rozalla’s third album ‘Coming Home’ was released in 1998. In 2002 she enjoyed a surprise German hit single with a remix of ‘Everybody’s Free’. She re-emerged in 2003 alongside Plastic Boy on the vocal Trance hit single ‘Live Another Life,’ and 2005 saw the club hit with her track ‘All Or Nothing.’

Another version of ‘Everybody’s Free’ hit the Australian Top 5 in 2009, after it had been used as the theme to ‘So You Think You Can Dance’, and Rozalla successfully toured that country on the back of the success.

    Rozalla Miller

    Rozalla Miller was born on 18 March 1964 in Ndola, Zambia. She began performing at a young age in Zambia singing in clubs, at special events and on a children’s TV show. She relocated to Zimbabwe at the age of 18. Her father, a Zimbabwean, had moved to Zambia from Rhodesia during colonial times to seek greener pastures. She lived in Chinhoyi briefly between 1982 and 1983 before moving to Harare where she went with the intention of enrolling at a college to learn elementary typing. While in Zimbabwe, she became part of various RnB cover bands such as the Rusike Brothers and Boykie Moore’s band, Grab, before beginning her own recording career. In 1984, she recorded a single ‘Party Time’ with the Rusike Brothers. The song became popular in Harare and Bulawayo night clubs. In 1989, she former Radio 3 DJ, John Matinde sponsored her flight to the UK in 1989.

    While in the UK, she met music producer Chris Sergeant, who was director of Unit Dance Records based in Wolverhampton. The producer is well-known for producing Lovemore Majaivana’s album ‘Jiri’ during his 1987 UK tour. She recorded three singles with Unit Dance. Her music genre was by then facing stiff competition from the likes of Whitney Houston. The Unit Dance label was later taken over by Sony Records which had also signed Michael Jackson under its stable. In 1990, she released her first UK single was ‘Born to Luv Ya’. This was followed by another single ‘Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good) (1991).’ The single was later included on her dance debut album ‘Everybody’s Free’ (1992). The album featured hits such as ‘Faith (In the Power of Love)’ and ‘Are You Ready to Fly’. Her debut performance was at Wembley Arena in London in 1992.

    Rozalla Miller (born 18 March 1964), better known as simply Rozalla, is a Zimbabweanelectronic music performer who was born in what was then Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia). She is best known for her three 1991/92 hit singles "Faith (In the Power of Love)", "Are You Ready to Fly", and particularly "Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)", which has been remixed and re-issued several times. In December 2016, Billboard magazine ranked her as the 98th most successful dance artist of all-time.

    Musical career

    Rozalla began performing at a young age in her native Zambia singing in clubs and at events; then at age 13, she was singing on a children's TV show. Still in her teens, she relocated to Zimbabwe where she fronted various R&B cover bands before beginning her own recording career with a resultant five number-one hits on that nation's chart. In 1988, Rozalla relocated to London with her manager Chris Sergeant and worked with the Band of Gypsies, a production duo consisting of Nigel Swanston and Tim Cox.

    Rozalla's first UK single "Born to Luv Ya" became a club hit in 1990. The singer's career really took off when the dance anthem "Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)", reached number 6 on the UK Singles Chart in 1991. It became a top 10 hit in many European countries soon afterwards and reached the Billboard Top 40 the following year. It remains her biggest hit to date. It was later included on her debut album Everybody's Free, which peaked at number 20 on the UK Albums Chart and went silver. The album spawned two more sizeable hits in "Faith (In the Power of Love)" and "Are You Ready to Fly", reaching number 11 and 14 respectively on the UK Singles Chart, plus a lower charting single with the ballad "Love Breakdown".
