Orestes Bouzon was born in Havana, Cuba, February 20, 1963. Painting for him was a natural form of expression since childhood. As a young child, Bouzon formulates his feelings better on paper than in words, and his life begins to revolve around their visions.
In 1980, Orestes Bouzon was accepted into the San Alejandro School of Arts.Bouzon began to see the beauty in art and developed his sensitive and dramatic drawing style.
In 1994, because of the oppression, Orestes decides to run away from his native country. His journey led him to the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay.
Currently Orestes Bouzon lives in Miami, Florida. His paintings are found in all the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as in the United States.

Gina Muxó Ramos is a self-taught artist who lives in Miami, Florida, and currently works alongside Orestes Bouzon, an artist who studied at the Academy of Art San Alejandro in Cuba. Gina and Orestes met via the art scene. They quickly became friends and decided to create a series together. The Bouzón ∞ Muxó collaboration between these two artists was subsequently named “Carnavale”.
Gina and Orestes, nationally established and widely exhibited artists, are inspired by the joyous masquerades and carnavals of the world. Together, Orestes and Gina mix acrylics and oils to create abstract blends of reality and fantasy. Prior to beginning each piece of artwork Gina and Orestes discuss image, color, what they want the painting to portray, and its relevance to its surroundings. “Our joint series ‘Carnavale’ is an intense marriage of mediums and technique with extreme attention to detail,” Gina explained. “Careful attention was taken to each detail and how the colors contrast one another and flow within each other. ”Gina and Orestes are both inspired by color and enjoy creating positive, joyful, artwork.

Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, First Lady Casey DeSantis announced contemporary artist, Orestes Bouzon as Florida’s featured artist for Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated September 15 to October 15. Mr. Bouzon, who fled Cuba in 1994 to come to the United States, has made a name for himself and his art across the globe ever since.
“I am delighted to announce world-renowned artist, Mr. Orestes Bouzon as Florida’s featured artist for the 2020 Hispanic Heritage Month,” saidFirst Lady Casey DeSantis. “His story, like so many others, is one of hardship and hard work. After fleeing Cuba in 1994, Mr. Bouzon set out for a better life in the United States and began working as an artist for the Marine Corps at Guantanamo Bay. Mr. Bouzon’s untold story is one that I am excited to celebrate, along with his art, during this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month.”
About Orestes Bouzon
Orestes Bouzon is a contemporary artist who was born in Havana, Cuba in 1963. Bouzon has been an established artist in the United States since 1995.
Bouzon enjoys using a figurative style to create magical realism in his paintings. He often uses the female figure combined with other elements and vibrant colors to capture light, making his painting extraordinary.
As the artist explains, “my paintings emphasize the female form - my muse. She is confident yet serine; unique and yet every woman. I am captivated by the romantic fabric of days gone by, and adorn my muse in swirls of rich color and light.”
As a master of the veladura technique, Bouzon graduated from the prestigious San Alejandro Academy of Art. After graduating, Bouzon decided to flee the oppression of his native country in 1994. His journey led him to the United States Naval Base, Guantanamo Bay. During his 14-month stay, Bouzon dedicated his time to painting for the Marines in exchange for art supplies.
