Kendall Francis Schmidt (born November 2, 1990) is an American actor and singer best known for his role as Kendall Knight on the Nickelodeon show, Big Time Rush, as well as a member of the boy band of the same name. In Big Time Rush, Kendall is "the leader of the band." Before Nickelodeon, he had a guest appearance on Frasier. In 2009, he signed a record deal with Columbia Records with his group Big Time Rush, along with James Maslow, Carlos PenaVega, and Logan Henderson.

Early Life

Kendall Schmidt was born on November 2nd, 1990 in Wichita, Kansas, to Kathy and Kent Schmidt. Schmidt is one out of three boys, with older brothers Kenneth Schmidt and Kevin Schmidt, who are also actors. He is of German descent. When he was 10 years old, his family finally made the move from Kansas to California.

Acting Career

1996-2001: Early Acting Career

He began his acting career at age five, appearing in a Chex TV commercial. When he was nine years old, he was one of two young actors who were hired to be Haley Joel Osment's stand-in and body double (they shared the same agent) in the Steven Spielberg film A.I. Artificial Intelligence. He celebrated his birthday on the set, and Spielberg and the cast surprised him with a birthday cake decorated with Star Wars figures.

2001-2008: Recurring Roles

In 2001, Schmidt soon landed recurring roles on General Hospital, Titus, Raising Dad, Gilmore Girls, and CSI: Miami. Big Time Rush is an American pop musicboy band formed in 2009. The group is composed of Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Logan Henderson, and Carlos PenaVega. They initially signed with Nick Records in 2009 and then transferred to Columbia Records. The group starred as a fictional version of themselves in Nickelodeon's television series of the same name, Big Time Rush. The show ran from November 28, 2009, to July 25, 2013. The pilot episode featured the group's first promotional single, "Big Time Rush". The group has released four studio albums: BTR in 2010, Elevate in 2011, 24/Seven in 2013, and Another Life in 2023. The band went on hiatus in 2014, which lasted until 2021 when the group resumed live performances and released the single "Call It Like I See It".

Nickelodeon signed Big Time Rush to a record deal in 2009 simultaneously with the television series, Big Time Rush. For the series, their debut single, "Big Time Rush", was released on November 20, 2009. It debuted during a one-hour special preview of the series and was the show's opening theme. Kendall Donald Knight is the appointed leader and top schemer of the gang. He is tall, blond, and has green eyes. He is technically the founder of Big Time Rush, as he only agrees to move to L.A. if he can bring James, Carlos, and Logan along.

In season 1, Kendall is sixteen years old. In "Big Time Interview", it's revealed that he is from Shakopee, Minnesota, where he was the captain of his school's hockey team. He lives with his mom (Jennifer Knight) and little sister (Katie Knight).

Character

Many people (like Gustavo and Kelly) describe Kendall as the total package: Besides having good looks, he is sweet, caring, very optimistic, down to earth, a good friend, and a talented singer. Yet he can also be a "bad boy", as shown in "Big Time Bad Boy."

Despite Logan being the genius of the group, it is Kendall who manages to stay cool under pressure and figure out the solutions. In fact, the other guys often go to him when they can't solve their problems. He likes to motivate his friends through speeches.

He is very honest, believing that being yourself is the way to go. This is shown in "Big Time Audition","Big Time Love Song", and "Big Time Blogger." This sometimes causes friction between him and Gustavo, as Kendall is very stubborn with what he believes in. In "Big Time Concert", Hawk's assistant describes him as "the complete package...but strong-headed, hard to control."

He is incredibly loyal and willing to fight for those he loves.
