Trail of Broken Wings: A Novel by Sejal Badani | Conversation Starters
Trail of Broken Wings is the debut novel of Sejal Badani, an American of Indian origin. The novel deals with child abuse and how it affects everyone in the family. Brent, the main character, moves from India to the U.S. to give a better life to his family. However, even as he propels his daughters, Marin, Trisha, and Sonya, on to excellence in their studies and career choices, he abuses them relentlessly. His wife, Ranee, unable to stop him, looks the other way whenever the beatings happen. The book begins years later when Sonya returns home and learns that Brent is in a coma and is not expected to survive. The sisters and their mother now deal with their horrific past and try to look forward to a better future.

Judged a Book by the Cover
Yes. Who hasn’t? You can say you haven’t, but you definitely have, even if it’s just subconsciously. No judging here!
Waited too long to review a book
Yes. I then had to re-read the book…which wasn’t actually a bad thing.
Skipped ahead whilst reading
Yup, I’ve done this too. I try not to, but I was reading an eBook once and I just had to know if the characters ended up together or were even still alive at the end.
Don’t tell me you haven’t done it too.
Taken multiple books on a short trip
Do eBooks count?
Lost sleep reading
YES. Many, MANY times. I’ve been reading books for all of my life. There have been days where I went to school like a zombie because I couldn’t put a book down. I’ve read under the covers with a torch/flashlight. I’ve struggled to focus at work because I stayed up late reading.
Yes, I’ve lost sleep reading.
Forced yourself to read/finish a book
Uh, high school, definitely. Even university. Once when I was an adult and I didn’t want to leave a book unfinished.
These are some titles I’ve had to read or forced myself to finish, even though I probably wouldn’t have picked these up on my own:
Spent too much money on books
Oh…..yes 😦 I have spent a fortune on pay-per-chapter apps to read books that have since disappeared from the platforms.
Never. Again.
Kept a borrowed book
No!
Discovered a spoiler
Yeah…. 😦
Read too many books at once
Yes, and I will never do it again. I kept forgetting where I was in each book when I swapped to another one. I couldn&
